There are several parts to the Junior Racquetball program at Petaluma Valley Athletic Club (PVAC):
- The main part is the class. There are two sessions, one in Fall from September through December and the other is from January through May. In the class we have players from 6-18. It is broken up into two groups. Beginners go every Saturday from 11-12:00 and Intermediates go from 12-2:00. Each week something new is learned building off the previous week. Students learn the basics of the game as well as strategy, safety, and sportsmanship. Many players will also attend tournaments, including the junior tournament at PVAC in October.
- During the Summer we do not have class, but do have supervised junior challenge courts every Saturday from 11-2:00. This allows students to continue playing with input from an instructor.
- After school challenge. During the school year a court is reserved every Wednesday from 3-5:00 for the Juniors to play a challenge court.
- Junior tournament. Every October we have the PVAC Junior Racquetball tournament. This is one of a few junior-only tournaments in the state. Players are invited from other clubs, and the kids have a fun day with a lot of play and food. All levels are welcome to this event.
- Junior lessons. I provide individual lessons free to any juniors in our class. This is a good opportunity to work on specific issues the player may have. For juniors not in the class, the charge is $15 per hour, and for adults it is $35 per hour. All charges are donated back to the junior program.
- Some things being looked into include establishing one or two high school teams.
